The long-term plan for Southampton Airport, released yesterday, will see passenger numbers quadruple over the next 25 years.
The airport unveiled its master plan to meet a predicted growth in demand for regional air travel yesterday. The plan includes the creation of more than 2,000 new jobs by 2030 and the possibility of a second terminal on the north-east side of the airfield.
Under to the plan, passenger numbers will grow from 1.8 million last year to 3 million in 2015 and 6 million in 2030. By 2030 the airport hopes to generate 4,009 jobs contributing an estimated £260m to the local economy, up from the current £86m.
