The number of passengers utilizing Southampton Airport was up 5.3% last month compared to 2009. Together with Heathrow - which was up by just 0.4% - it was the only BAA airport to show growth in March.
BAA blamed the BA cabin crew strikes, bad weather, an early Easter and (in Scotland in particular) the loss of flights from failed airline Flyglobespan for the poor numbers. In the year to the end of March passengers were down 5.1% (1.8m) at Southampton Airport.
