Flybe flights returning to normal
13.09.07
Passengers flying with Flybe today should not experience delays or cancellations, following the grounding of six of the airline's aircraft yesterday. The UK regional airline grounded six Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft while safety checks were carried out on the plane's landing gear.
The move followed two of the planes owned by the Scandinavian Air Service (SAS) crashing after landing in Europe in the past three days. Flybe routes affected included those serving the Isle of Man, Gatwick, Belfast, Manchester, Edinburgh, Southampton and the Channel Islands.
Southampton Airport was one of the worst hit, with nine flights to and from Edinburgh, Guernsey and Jersey cancelled yesterday morning. In the afternoon there were also delays from Southampton to Guernsey, Manchester and Edinburgh leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
However, a spokesman said that services were gradually returning to normal and no further cancellations or delays were expected today. However, Flybe will continue to ground the six aircraft until it is given the go-ahead to bring them back into service by the manufacturer.
