Flybe to run normal schedule this weekend
14.09.07
Flybe has said that it flight schedules will return to normal over the weekend, following 3 days of flight cancellations due to emergency checks on six of its aircraft. The airline cancelled 30 flights yesterday, despite initial reports that it expected to run a near normal schedule!
The flights were cancelled after aircraft manufacturer Bombardier instructed the airline to inspect six of its Q400 turboprop aircraft, which meant that the planes had to be withdrawn from service. The call followed two crash landings resulting from failed landing gear on Q400 aircraft flown by Scandinavian airline SAS.
Flybe cancelled over 30 flights yesterday, whilst SAS cancelled over 100, including flights between London City Airport and Copenhagen. The UK airline is warning of further disruption today, but expects the weekend schedules to be back to normal.
The Q400 is one of four aircraft types flown by Flybe and is mainly used on domestic routes. Flights affected so far include routes from Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Gatwick, Jersey, Newcastle, Manchester, Norwich and Southampton.
Customers whose flights have been hit by the disruption have been contacted by Flybe and offered alternative flights or a full refund. Anyone flying over the weekend can check the airline's website (click on the link above) or contact the call centre on 0871 522 6157.
