Southampton Airport enjoyed the busiest year in its 98 year history in 2007, with 1.96 million passengers passing through the terminal - an increase of 2.8% on 2006. The hub now serves 46 destinations with 14 airline and tour operators, with Flybe by far the largest.
The most popular routes from the airport in 2007 included Edinburgh, Manchester, Glasgow, Jersey, Guernsey, Paris, Dublin, Newcastle, Belfast and Amsterdam. New routes added included to Frankfurt and Nice with Flybe, Verona with Inghams, Angers in the Loire Valley with Eastern Airways and Blue Islands added a new daily flight to Guernsey.
Chris Butler, managing director at Southampton Airport, said: '2007 was a record, with over 1.9 million people using their local airport for both business and leisure travel. Around 1200 people work at the airport at 30 different companies. I would like to thank them all for their hard work and dedication.'
