Man in court over big cocaine find
16.01.09
A man appeared in court after cocaine worth more than £200,000 was discovered in a false compartment in a suitcase on a flight to Southampton Airport, the Hampshire Chronicle reports. Roland Castillo, 59, was caught with the drugs having flown in from Cameroon via Paris, a route often used by drug smugglers.
The Dutch national was remanded in custody until February 16 for details of his previous convictions. He admitted smuggling 1.5 kilograms of the Class A drug with a 100 percent purity.
Southampton Crown Court heard that Mr Castillo – who lives in Holland – had a previous conviction for attempted murder and had been sentence to 10 years in jail by a court in Venezuela for smuggling cocaine, which was cut on appeal to 42 months in Holland.
