Flybe plane makes emergency landing
16.08.07
Emergency services rushed to Southampton Airport last night after a plane carrying 117 passengers reported smoke in the cockpit and cabin.
Fire crews from Eastleigh and St. Mary's, police and paramedics were all called to the airport at around 22:00 and to deal with problems as the Flybe flight from Murcia came in to land. However the smoke had dispersed by the time the Embraer 195 plane landed at 22:15 and the response crews were stood down.
It was the second night in a row the airport's emergency action plan had been called into use. On Monday night a section of the M27 was closed after a pilot reported problems with the landing gear on his light aircraft. The incident also ended without injuries after the Cessna 310 touched down successfully.
