Fire fighters break record for charity
17.07.09
A team of 8 fire fighters from Southampton Airport have climbed Ben Nevis, Scafel Pike and Snowdon in a record time of 17 hours and 10 minutes, as part of the Three Peaks Challenge. The challenge involves completing the three mountain climbs and travelling between the locations, all within 24 hours, to raise money for charity.
The airport firefighters received a platinum medal for their efforts, coming in 11th out of 112 teams. Their time takes the BAA wide title from the Gatwick Airport team, who completed the challenge in 2005 taking 14 minutes longer.
The Southampton Airport team also raised £1000 for The Burns Unit at Salisbury Hospital, and The Fire Fighter’s Charity through sponsorship, and collections at Sainsbury’s in Hedge End and Shirley, ASDA in Southampton and Totton, and Haskins.
