The UK flight shutdown caused by the Iceland volcano eruption is costing Southampton Airport over £50,000 a day, the Daily Echo reports. The airport closed at 11:30 on Thursday and has cancelled hundreds of flights since, with no end to the disruption in sight.
Southampton Airport boss David Lees told the newspaper: ‘We appreciate the patience of passengers at this difficult time and will continue to provide updates as often as possible. The [first] two days [of the disruption] cost us in excess of £100,000.’
