South coast airports suffer

Passenger capacity at Bournemouth and Southampton Airport has been slashed by 236,000 seats over the last year, the BBC reports. Figures from Official Airline Guide (OAG) show a 7% drop in flights from Southampton to 3,201 - with 164,000 fewer seats available. There was a 1% increase in flights out of Bournemouth, but 72,000 fewer seats.
BAA, which operates Southampton Airport, said a record 1.96 million passengers passed through the south coast hub last year. It maintains its predictions of around 3 million passengers using the airport each year by 2015 and about 6 million passengers annually by 2030. Bournemouth Airport told the BBC that figures for actual passenger numbers for the period were not available.
