Third day of fog problems at UK airports
22.12.06
Christmas travellers face a third day of misery as thick fog leads to more flight cancellations and delays at many UK airports, including Southampton. Up to seventy thousand passengers heading for a Christmas getaway have been stranded or delayed as fog plunged many airports into chaos. And weather experts predicted the fog will continue for another 48 hours at least.
A spokesman for airports operator BAA said that 'fairly significant problems' were expected today, with BA flights to Heathrow worst hit. The current (11:00) position at Southampton airport is as follows:
There have been nine reported cancellations so far, including AF5864 to Paris, BE863, BA7733 and BE864 to Manchester, BE171 to Leeds, and flights to Glasgow, Dublin and Amsterdam. Passengers are advised to check in as normal but to contact their airline for specific information or see www.southamptonairport.com.
