Southampton Airport is preparing for a busy bank holiday weekend, as over 23,000 people pass through the terminal. The top 10 destinations will be Edinburgh, Jersey, Guernsey, Dublin, Glasgow, Belfast, Amsterdam, Newcastle, Manchester and Alicante, with Paris, Brussels, Dusseldorf and Bordeaux also popular.
As well as people flying out, passengers will also be flying into the region for holidays, to visit their friends and relatives, and in increasing numbers to link up with cruise ships in the Port of Southampton. This weekend 9 cruise ships will sail into the port, including Queen Mary 2, Grand Princess, Oceana, Independence of the Seas, Black Watch, Aurora, Queen Victoria, Oriana and Ventura.
Jan Halliday, Director of Marketing at Southampton Airport, said: ‘This weekend is set to be busy for passengers jetting off to 45 destinations from Southampton Airport. We are also expecting to see lots of visitors fly in to this region especially from France, Germany and Holland, as they take advantage of the euro exchange rate to holiday in the south. The presence of 9 cruise ships in the port will also mean many cruise passengers will use the airport as an easy way to start their holiday.’
