Concerns over noise action plan
30.06.09
Concerns have been raised by residents in Twyford that more flights to Southampton Airport could be routed over the village, the Chronicle reports. The airport has launched a 16 week consultation on a five year noise action plan, required by the Government under EU law.
Among the plans to reduce aircraft noise is for flights to line up with the runway further away from the airport, to allow 'continuous descent' landings. These reduce the amount of turns and altitude changes to cut noise and fuel usage, but they could also lead to more pilots flying down the Itchen valley, the newspaper reports.
